4 Great Spring Glass Deck Railing Cleaning Tips

Spring has finally sprung, which makes this the perfect time to polish up your outdoor glass railings. Fortunately, it’s really easy to clean your glass railings using simple household cleaning supplies that everyone has on hand. Here are 4 great tips to bring back the sparkle and shine so you can enjoy the extra light and clear view as you welcome in the warmer weather.

1. Soap and water.  This is the tried-and-true method everyone is familiar with. Dilute a few squirts of dish soap into a pail of water and, using a non-abrasive cloth, gently wipe away any accumulated dirt, leaves or bird droppings. If you come across any stubborn, dried-on debris, let it soak for a few minutes, then wipe away. Once you’re done, you’ll need to spray suds off with plain water to avoid spotting.  Air-drying is usually enough, or you can use a lint-free towel.
2.  Vinegar and water.  As an alternative to soap and water, you may wish to use a diluted vinegar solution. Mix it half-and-half (50% vinegar, 50% water) and clean the same way as above to achieve a streak-free clean. It may not have the nicest smell, but that will fade quickly. Many people also like that it is antibacterial, non-toxic and safe for skin, kids and pets.
3.  Squeegee. This simple tool is one of the most effective ways for preventing streaks and water marks on glass. After cleaning with soap, vinegar, or even after a rain, a quick pass with a squeegee will instantly return that crystal-clear view you prize from your custom glass railings.
4.  Drying. Outdoor glass deck railings can be left to dry in the air, but you can also dry it by hand. If you choose a towel, make sure it’s lint-free, like a chamois cloth or a microfibre cloth (avoid paper towels which are very linty). You can also use newspaper, but avoid using glossy pages or the comics.
