How to Keep Stainless Steel Railing Hardware Looking New

We’ve talked about how to keep the glass sparkling in your stainless and glass railing system, but how do you care for the stainless steel portion? It’s quite easy, but there are some things to be aware of when it comes to maintaining stainless steel railings in Vancouver’s coastal locale. This is what we’re addressing today.
Indoor stainless and glass railing systems
Stainless steel enjoys ever-increasing popularity as a beautiful and robust material for indoor & outdoor railing systems here in Vancouver. For indoor railings, a simple wipe with soapy, warm water will take care of dirt and fingerprints. More stubborn greasy spots can be rubbed out with vinegar and water. Rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth to restore a like-new look. Once a week is enough to prevent any build-up that might start causing issues. As with glass, avoid using abrasive materials to clean stainless steel. It’s tough and rust-resistance but it can still be scratched to the point it becomes dull and prone to rusting.
Outdoor stainless steel railings in Vancouver
As we are in a coastal city, outdoor stainless steel railings in Vancouver need extra protection from the salt in sea spray. Frequently wipe your railing, particularly after windy days, to wash harmful substances away. Designing a railing with marine-grade steel is also an excellent option.
We recommended a hydrophobic coating to protect stainless and glass railing systems in harsher seaside environments. Apply it 2-3 times a year to brackets, spigots, hand rails, base rails and top rails, for maximum protection. If your railing somehow suffers damage, it’s important to fix it right away. Some damage can be buffed out. For anything else, have professionals tend to it.
